Tourism Bursary

The Saskatchewan Tourism Education Council Department of Tourism Saskatchewan is pleased to offer professional development bursaries for the tourism sector in Saskatchewan. Bursaries are available for all five industries that make up the sector — accommodation, food and beverage services, recreation and entertainment, transportation, and travel services.

Bursary Details

emerit Professional or Specialist Certification

Tourism Saskatchewan will pay all applicable fees to cover the actual cost of emerit Professional or Specialist Certification and related training resources.

Apprenticeship training

Tourism Saskatchewan pay the cost of tuition for tourism Apprenticeship Trades.

When to apply

  • APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED: Apply before June 30, 2022.
  • Successful applications will be determined at the discretion of Tourism Saskatchewan.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by August 1.
  • Up to $5,000 is available for all approved bursaries each year.

Eligibility

  • emerit Professional Certification applicants must be residents of Saskatchewan and currently employed in an eligible occupation with a minimum of 500 hours of experience. Minimum experience for emerit Specialist Certification depends on the occupation. See Specialist Certification below for details.
  • Apprenticeship applicants must be residents of Saskatchewan and have a minimum of 3000 hours of trade-related experience.
  • The applicant must agree to complete the program within one year, by May 30, 2023 for applications approved in 2022.
  • An applicant may not receive more than one bursary per year.

  • Event Coordinator ($453.99 bursary)
  • Food and Beverage Server ($453.99 bursary)
  • Freshwater Fishing Guide ($354.99 bursary)
  • Front Desk Agent ($433.99 bursary)
  • Housekeeping Room Attendant ($453.99 bursary)
  • Hunting Guide ($354.99 bursary)
  • Line Cook ($453.99 bursary)
  • Reservation Sales Agent ($467.99 bursary)
  • Retail Sales Associate ($453.99 bursary)
  • Sales Manager ($453.99 bursary)
  • Supervisor ($518.99 bursary)
  • Taxicab and Limousine Driver ($354.99 bursary)
  • Tour Guide ($453.99 bursary)
  • Tourism Trainer ($694.99 bursary)
  • Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor ($433.99 bursary)

Specialist Certification:

  • Director of Housekeeping, minimum of 750 hours, or 500 hours for emerit certified Housekeeping Room Attendants, or 300 hours for emerit certified Supervisors ($694.99 bursary)
  • Event Manager, minimum of 1,500 qualified hours of work experience in the occupation within the past three years and currently emerit certified as an Event Coordinator; or 3,000 hours of events or events-related activities within the past five years ($1,164.99 bursary)
  • Event Management International, minimum 5,000 hours of relevant event management experience within the last five years ($694.99 bursary)
  • Food and Beverage Manager, minimum of four years in the food service industry with two of those years being at a supervisory or managerial level ($1,144.99 bursary)
  • Food and Beverage Management International, minimum of five years in the hospitality Industry with a minimum of three years’ experience as a Food and Beverage Manager in the last three years ($694.99 bursary)
  • Heritage Interpreter, minimum of 1,200 hours of work experience in the occupation ($688.99 bursary)
  • Hotel General Manager, minimum of five years in the hospitality Industry with a minimum of three years experience as a hotel general manager in the last three years ($694.99 bursary)
