Tourism Saskatchewan is launching a Birding Guide Certification Program to help grow birding tourism across the province and we’re looking for people who are passionate about birding and interested in guiding visitors.
This program is designed to build a provincial list of certified birding guides that Saskatchewan businesses may hire to host birding tours and experiences for visitors.

What Does Being a Certified Birding Guide Mean?
Certified guides help visitors navigate local hotspots, understand access points and conditions and make the most of Saskatchewan’s diverse bird habitats.
Certified birding guides may be hired by tourism businesses to:
- Lead guided bird walks or day tours
- Support visiting birding groups or tour operators
- Provide local expertise during peak birding seasons
This work is typically casual, seasonal or occasional and may suit people looking for:
- Side jobs
- Weekend or short‑term work
- Supplemental income alongside an existing job
You do not need to quit your job to become a certified birding guide.
Important to Know
- This is a certification and training program, not a job placement or employment guarantee
- There is no guarantee of hours or paid work after certification
- The purpose of the program is to support the growing birding tourism landscape in Saskatchewan by increasing the number of trained, ready guides available to industry
Why This Program Matters
Saskatchewan offers some of North America’s most unique birding opportunities, including major migration flyways to rare grassland specialists and expansive, uncrowded habitats.
Certified guides help visitors experience these highlights with confidence.
The training also emphasizes ethical birding practices and habitat stewardship.
